What Is Wrong with My Skin? Or How Psoriasis Appears

Have you noticed red and pink spots on the skin, and the skin itself significantly scales? Most likely, you have psoriasis, that is, a non-infectious dermatological disease. This disease is characterized by too fast cell division, which is about 30 times faster than normal. How does psoriasis appear and can it be cured?

Symptoms of psoriasis

Where do scales on the skin come from in the course of psoriasis? Cells that appear during the disease development do not have a chance to completely mature; as a result, the contacts between the cells disappear. The skin is affected by rashes with grey and white scales that easily drop off when touching.

This pathology is also characterized by an inflammatory process in the affected area meaning that the body defences are fighting against their own cells.

Symptoms of psoriasis are the following:

  • Convexity of the affected skin,
  • Appearance of scales on the knees and elbows, and then on the hands, feet, lower back,
  • Bleeding in areas where the skin is completely exfoliated and peels off,
  • Problems with the nail plate (yellowing, discoloration, appearance of small dimples),
  • Skin itching,
  • Outbreaks of the disease resulting in drop-like plaques on the skin,
  • Pain in the joints, high sensitivity, swelling of the skin.

Most often, the disease manifests itself in people aged 18-25. Contrary to popular belief, psoriasis is not transmitted by shaking hands or using household items and items of intimate hygiene.

So why does psoriasis appear? Stress is considered to be the most “popular” cause of its development.

The exact causes of the disease are still unknown, but it is established that it can be induced by:

  • Strong emotional shock,
  • Problems with the endocrine system,
  • Compromised immunity,
  • Metabolism disturbances and deficiency of certain microelements and vitamins in the body,
  • Parasites living in the intestines,
  • Genetic factor.

How to treat psoriasis?

If you notice the above symptoms, seek medical attention as soon as possible. Only a doctor can prescribe an individual treatment based on your age, sex, body characteristics, health status and occupation.

In general, treatment of psoriasis can include:

  • Elimination of triggers (alcohol consumption, some medicines),
  • Providing the patient with peace and rest,
  • Temporary hospitalization,
  • Adjustment of the working schedule,
  • Use of certain medications,
  • Replenishment of microelements and vitamins in the body (silicon, vitamin D, Omega-3 acid, lecithin).

To get rid of the external manifestations of psoriasis, you can use anti-inflammatory preparations, for example, ointments that eliminate redness and rash and help eliminate skin itching.
